Built for the joy of operating.
Some of the best hours in the hobby are spent working a small layout well: setting the points, picking up a car, spotting it just so. modelrailsim brings that to your browser, whenever you have ten minutes.
What modelrailsim is
modelrailsim.com is a model railroad simulator that takes the hobby seriously. Layouts are built from real sectional track geometry, cars are standard lengths, and the throttle works like a real DCC handset. You can drive freely, solve the classic switching puzzles with their proper rules, and design new track plans with an AI that knows how layouts go together.
It's for modellers who want to practise operating, for anyone planning a layout who wants to try it before buying track, and for people who simply enjoy a good puzzle.
What we care about
- Getting it right. Track geometry, capacities and rules should match the real thing. If something's wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
- Respecting your time. No ads, no nagging. Open it, run a train, close it.
- Honest AI. The AI helps you design, solve and improve. It says what it compromised on, and it never pretends a plan works when it doesn't.
Who we are
modelrailsim.com is a product of Iron Rod Systems LLC, a Salt Lake City company that builds trusted AI products: AI that's built and proven in production.
